De Burgh Reaches New Heights
15 February 2025

On Thursday 13 February 2025, JWLand celebrated a significant construction milestone for De Burgh, the third and final residential release in Northbourne Village, with a topping-out event that brought together project partners, local stakeholders, and industry leaders.
The event marked the completion of the building’s structure, a moment that offered a chance to pause and reflect on the journey so far. It was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration between JWLand and its construction partners. Attendees heard from two key speakers: Anna Neelagama, CEO of Master Builders Association Canberra, and Michael Prendergast, CEO of JWLand Construction.
Anna Neelagama spoke to the resilience of Canberra’s construction industry and the critical role developments like De Burgh play in addressing the city’s housing supply challenges. She highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between developers, builders, and policymakers to support sustainable growth in the sector.
Michael Prendergast provided insights into the impressive construction milestones achieved to date. The project has seen over 16,650 cubic metres of concrete placed, 1,335 tonnes of steel installed, and approximately 150,000 trade hours contributed so far. Importantly, 80% of all suppliers and trades engaged for De Burgh are from the Canberra region, reinforcing JWLand’s commitment to supporting local businesses and contributing to the local economy.
Reflecting on the journey, Michael acknowledged the adaptability and resilience of the project team, stating, “The ability to adapt and overcome obstacles while maintaining the standards and culture we set for ourselves is a testament to you all and the quality of work we continue to deliver.”
With De Burgh’s structure now complete, the next stages of construction are well underway. Scaffold will start to be removed around the site, internal fit-out of apartments will continue, and landscaping will commence.
Stay tuned for further updates as we continue making progress at De Burgh!
